Ayurveda is Divided into 8 Branches they are :
1. Kaya Chikitsa (Internal Medicine) : Kaya chikitisa is the first branch of ayurved that mainly deals with the General Medicine.The total treatment procedure is called as Kaya Chikitsa.
Here : Kaya = Body
          Chikitsa = Treatment
Kaya chikitsa mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of variety of diseases,such as Skin disorders,TB,RA and many other disorders.Charaka samhitha is most important scripture in Kaya chikitsa.
According to natural treatment body is made up of Three Doshas,Saptha Dhathu and its Malas where a disease occurs due to imbalance of these Doshas and Vitiating them inturn leading to the Dhathus i.e DoshaDhathu Sammurchana leads to a Pathological condition effecting the body,here is where the Kaya chikitsa plays an Important Role in treating those pathalogical disease.
Rejuvenation (Kaya Kalpa) : Another unique aspect of kaya chikitsa is Rejuvenation which is also known as Kaya Kalpa.This term refers to bringing back or renewal of body(Youthfulness).
2. Shalya Chikitsa (Surgery) : Shalya chikita mainly deals with the foreign objects in the body that are mainly dealt with some specific treatments explained by acharya Susruta.Acharya susruta who is synonyms for word surgery was master in several sophisticated surgical procedures thousand of years of ago.The use of Dead Bodies for Dissection Purpose was Explained and practised in Ancient India.
Susruta samhitha explained wide variety of several surgical procedures and pre operative measures.Caraka who mainly dealt with the internal medicine also gave much importance to this Branch of Ayurveda in giving several treatment procedures.
3. Bala Chikitsa ( Pediatrics) : This Branch mainly deals with the Kaumara i.e Childrens (Pediatric),previously this branch deals both with the Pediatrics as well as Gynecology but as time precieds the Gynecology became a seprate Branch where it focus on the disorders,treatment,pre and post operative procedures of a Stree.
Acharya Kashyapa mainly focused on this branch,his book Kashyapa Smahitha explains each and every concept needed for Kaumara.
4. Graha Chikitsa (Psychiatry) : This is the Branch in ayurveda was originated in indian subcontinent 5000 years ago and is considered as one of the most advanced medical therapies existing in the world till the present,this branch gained a lot popularity in western world and considered as a form of COMPLIMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE (CAM).
This branch mainly concerned with diseases acquired or inhereted for unknown causes.This branch deals with diseases of mind or pyschic conditions which are acquired by unkown causes or super natural things or evil spirits.According to ayurved these pyschiatric diseases are caused due to affliction of DEVA,ASURA,GANDHARVA,YAKSHI,RAKSHASA,PISACHA,NAGA,DEMONS AND EVILS.
5. Urdhvanaga Chikitsa (ENT) : This branch deals with the diseases occuring urdhvaanga i.e Head,eyes,ears,nose,mouth.
As like of Allopathy this doesnot focus only on the Ears,Nose,Throat but ayurved focus all head related problems in this branch.
6. Damstra Chikitsa (Toxicology) : This branch deals with the science of Posions,this branch is also known as Agada Tantra.
Here the word "Damstra" means the teeth of posionos snakes or any other poison substances and the word "Agada" means any agent that is free form Gada(disease).
Agada tantra mainly deals with various methods of cleaning the posions out of the body as well as recommended antidotes for particualar disease.
7. Jara Chikitsa (Gerontology) : This branch deals with the Rejuvenating therapies,this branch is also known as Rasayana chikitsa.
Here the word Jara means Winkles but ayurveda doesnot mainly concentrate with treatment of geriatrics,it deals with the treatment should be at perfect that not only curing the disease but also bringing the essence back or youthness back to the effected patients or old peoples.
8. Vrishya Chikitsa (Fertility) : Vrisya chikitsa is a branch of ayurveda that explains the art of producing healthy progeny for the creation of better society.It deals with the various deases related to infertility and conditions relating to Shukra Dhatu or vital reproductive fluids.
Vrishya chikitsa is also known as Vajikarna.
